- Captured Stream Tour:
A half
day excursion on our most
popular tour - up a forested limestone gorge to an inland
valley, into the heart of Paparoa National Park, where water
disappears underground and emerges a kilometre away as a
tributary of another river. Come
along and find out about the
disappearing streams, the subterranean systems, caves and
surface features that give this National Park its character.
Trip time: four hours. Trip
cost: for 1/2 two people $240, $20 each extra person.
- Blowholes in Action:
Walk around
Punakaiki’s famous Pancake Rocks, where the blowholes are
spectacular at high tide with a heavy southwest sea. With
our guide learn about the geology of the Rocks and the life
on the edge - the coastal plants and seabirds.
Trip time: one hour. Trip
cost: for 1/2 people $60, $20 each extra person.
- Meet our Native Species:
Be guided on a lovely walking track through sub-tropical
native forest to Truman Beach with its coastal coves and
caves and learn about
marine mammals and other coastal dwellers.
Or go with
our knowledgeable guide on a nicely graded track up the
Pororari River gorge and learn about our Gondwana
species (plants, bush birds and freshwater fish).
Truman Track trip time is two
hours. Trip cost: for 1/2 people $120, $20 each other
person.
Pororari River gorge trip
time is three hours. Trip cost: for 1/2 people $180,
$20 each extra person.
- Historic Places:
Visit old gold towns up along the coast (Brighton, St
Kilda, Charleston) then journey through the hard won
heritage of the Denniston coal plateau. Half a day to a full
day out.
Trip cost for half a day for
1/2 people is $240, $20 each extra person.
Trip cost for a full day is
$480 for 1/2 people, $20 each extra person.
- Westland Petrels:
A
winter time special. Unique to Punakaiki - these birds breed
here in winter in the world's only known land colony.
They are best seen between May to September as they fly in
en masse at sunset after a day at sea. This is a spectacle
that should not to be missed.
Trip time is three hours. Trip cost: for 1/2 people $180,
$20 each extra person.

Something a
little different? Try
caving

Xanadu
Cave is 'sporty' and fun with sculptured passages,
glowworms and cave weta. Suitable for
moderate fitness. Minimum age is five years accompanied
by an adult. Trip time is four hours. Trip cost is
$NZ100 for 1-2 people, $NZ45 each additional person.

The Cavern is easy and
educational and suitable for a range of ages and
abilities. $25 1-2 people, $10 each additional person,
four to six years free.
- Helmets
with headlights are supplied.
For all
our trips we pick you up in our van, either from your
accommodation or from the National Park Visitor Centre.
Tramper
shuttle
The
trampers' shuttle service can take you to and/or from
Fox River, Bullock Creek and the Punakaiki Valley to
either start or finish your tramp. In
this case vehicles are left at a road end while you are
away. Alternatively, walkers can leave their vehicles
more safely in Punakaiki and get dropped off and picked
up at the start and finish of their outing. $50 per
trip (one to eight people with packs).
